Boycott CokeTunes

Coke Tunes arrives in NZ
Yeah, CokeTunes is here.

But I'm still going to buy albums and singles, import them if necessary. Keep people employed at Real Groovy.

I will never stoop to paying for WMA encoded files. I will never give Bill Gates the luxury of spying into my musical tastes and putting me into a consumer group, controlling what I can and cannot do with my freedom.

I will also never fund an organisation that partners with another power hungry corporation who violate human rights by kidnapping, torturing and murderering their own Union Workers.

What a mask the Coca Cola Empire wears in CokeTunes - so you can happily go about your bizarre existence, unaware of the monster you are funding. What a DARK and UGLY sith breed they are.

The Coca Cola Microsoft Death Star/Fridge will be attacked by freedom fighting rebels, and the rebels will win.

In Colombia, for example, union workers who bottle Coca Cola products have been kidnapped, tortured and murdered. The largest Coca Cola union in Colombia has asked for an international campaign against Coke to stop the violence against workers, which has included a half-dozen murders at one plant alone in the mid-1990’s. Reports of these crimes sparked a historic lawsuit against the Coca Cola Company and their Colombian bottler by the International Labor Rights Fund and the United Steelworkers of America on behalf of the Colombian union. What surprises me is that Bomber (editor of Rip It Up) has not made any noise about Satellite Media (producers of Rip It Up magazine) facilitating the grants generated by CokeFridge (from November), to NZ musicians. I hope he's been made aware of this.

I am not detecting any degree of sarcasm in your post, so a couple of points:

"The Coca Cola Microsoft Death Star/Fridge will be attacked by freedom fighting rebels, and the rebels will win."

ummmm, Capitalism = Freedom. How many Americans do you see swimming to Cuba? What exactly is this fight about??? Are these rebels the same vegetarian quiche eating, basket weaving, candle dipping, hippy zealots that destroy GE crops and vandalise McDonalds franchises?

"I will also never fund an organisation that partners with another power hungry corporation who violate human rights by kidnapping, torturing and murderering (sic) their own Union Workers".

... So you don't buy products from China, or put petrol in your car? You must be the only New Zealander who can claim this? Nobody is forced to work for the Coca Cola Company. The reality is that the good people at Real Groovy owe their jobs to organisations such as this, and people like Bill Gates. WMA and DRM really suck. But if people don't like it, the market will bring about its demise. Much the same way Sony got caned for many years when they refused to support MP3, in favour of a proprietary format, in their personal audio players.

So, most certainly spread the message to boycott CokeTunes, but we don't need irrational, anti-capitalist, hypocritical fear mongers such as Bomber to achieve this. Stick to the real issue - WMA and DRM are intrusive technologies, and Coke doesn't give a damn about real musicians.

Of course not, but I at least try. I'm trying to make a point here, and its difficult to push sarcasm onto human rights issues.

I support those who challenge the norm for a greater good. If it's Bomber today, fine. Bob off the street next week, fine.
(I am mildly interested in Bombers response to this, whatever form that may take, if any)

If it helps people look at something with better understanding, or opting for an alternative (to prepackaged consumer type products Im supposed to like, because research determines my tastes), thats all I want to project to you here.

Yes DRM is intrusive, and a good and valid reason has been given by those who put the plans in place. I simply don't agree with the way they do it, so I opt for an alternative and in this case, I will wait for iTunes or another supported service that also does not believe in the guidelines that build WMA files. (I cannot ignore fairer audio quality, either)

I know the corporate world is ugly, filled with hypocrites, liars and thieves. I guess some people choose to ignore this (by eating McDonalds or using CokeTunes for example), or others like me choose to wait on a lesser evil (Apple aren't guilt free either, at least not to the point of violating human rights, no matter what colour your skin).

I believe there is a lesser evil. I get the otherwise unsung recognition when the tax rebate comes in from Greenpeace and other charities like Red Cross, IHC etc.

I do use Premium Unleaded however, and eat GE free vegetables every night. I try where I can, because people (and some corporations) who are looking toward the future believe they should be available.

Haha sorry, I still can't help being amused by the fact it's called CokeTunes (much like the www.mycokemusic.com over here) - don't you get a rather satisfying vision of American Psycho's Patrick Bateman snorting a big fat line and dancing around his apartment (avec axe) to 'Hip To Be Square'? ;)

You're an idiot.

"I will never give Bill Gates the luxury of spying into my musical tastes"

You have your music tastes listed on your own profile.

Get out more... Bill Gates (nor anyone anywhere in the world) really cares!
